Which size door?

1. Up an over garage doors:

Any garage door size is expressed as the internal frame size. This is usually slightly larger than the actual door panel.

• For example:

If the internal frame to frame width is 7’0” and the floor to underside of frame crossbar is 6’6” – door size you need to order is 7’0” x 6’6”.

4. After you’ve placed your order:
• All customers are phoned once order is placed to double check door sizes and details of order.

• Most up and over garage doors require a 70 mm square timber goalpost frame OR factory fitted steel frame.
The door size does not include the size of this frame.

• There are two ways of fitting an up and over garage door. Please see diagram A and B.

2. Sectional garage doors.

The size of a sectional garage door is expressed as the internal frame size.
• Sectional doors are fitted to the rear of the brick pillars.
• If fitting between the brick pillars – please phone us on 01691 670394.
• On Hormann sectional doors space needed on back of pillars is minimum 90 mm.
• Hormann sectional doors come complete with the 90 mm steel frame (i.e.) two uprights and a crossbar.

• Minimum ceiling height – data in the following table is based on Hormann remote controls being used. If using other make of remote control please add approx 10 mm to the sizes below.

3.Non insulated roller garage doors.

If the headroom available is less than that required in the diagram, the roller can be fitted lower, but the drive through height will be reduced.

Also, the curve of the roller may become evident when viewed from the front with the door shut, if the door is fitted too low

For automatic single doors, a minimum of 110mm is needed on the motor end of the door.
N.B. Single doors for opening up to 11’ wide are made 2” wider than the opening (1” of curtain sits in the guide channels each side). Double doors over 11’ wide are made 4” wider than the opening (2” of curtain sits in the guide channels each side).

4. Insulated roller garage doors.


• Headroom needed for box which houses roll is 300 mm square.
• Side room for guides minimum 90 mm.
